There are lots of good documentaries on plant based eating!
You'd think they would be boring but they are not. Shocking maybe, but not boring.
When getting started, it’s good to watch one every week or so since it’s one of the fastest and easiest ways to learn. I have watched many documentaries numerous times, especially when I feel like I need an inspiration boost to keep me focused. Watching them often while you are transitioning and learning will be a big help.
As you go further and further with this, you will see that many well meaning people will try to convince you that you need to include some eggs or some milk or fish or oil or whatever. Or maybe they’ll be concerned that you are eating too many carbs even though they are whole food carbs. They will be absolutely convinced their advice is true because that’s what they’ve been taught for years and they will be saying it with the best of intentions. If you don’t know your stuff, you will likely give in. Knowing the research will be key. If you don't feel you are at a point to be able to answer all the questions people have, you can recommend they watch these videos as well.
These documentaries will give you another view on nutrition so you’ll be able to decide for yourself armed with information from all sides. So far, the information most people get is paid for by wealthy industries. The meat industry has research proving you need meat. The dairy industry has research proving you need dairy. You can find research to prove most any point of view. The research proving the science behind eating plant based is NOT sponsored by any industry. There is no big money in the lettuce and broccoli industries. The research done for plant based eating is done out of a genuine conviction.
FORKS OVER KNIVES is what I usually tell folks to watch first, but for now it's not free on Netflix or Prime. If you come across it, watch it!!! Or, you can rent it for around $1.99.
GAME CHANGERS is good for athletes and people who want to be in shape or up their performance. It's also for people who are having a hard time being convinced they will get enough protein to stay strong. It has stories about top athletes from a number of sports. It also explains some of the health and research stuff.
WHAT THE HEALTH is one I really liked and is similar to Forks over Knives. It's on Netflix!
PLANT PURE NATION
FOOD CHOICES
COWSPIRACY
EATING YOU ALIVE
FED UP
FOOD MATTERS
HUNGRY FOR CHANGE
FAT SICK AND NEARLY DEAD
ENGINE 2 KITCHEN RESCUE
Some of these videos get to the heart of the animal exploitation / agricultural thing. Even though it will be hard, you really need to watch at least one of those, especially when you are truly ready to give up the meat. If you care at all about animals, learning about how animal products get to our tables will forever change your opinion about meat as food.
